Downtown Portland, OR
This project is an expansion of the National University of Natural Medicine offices to accommodate their growing staff. The space is an existing utility generator building rehabbed into new office and laboratory space with a full interior remodel and seismic upgrade.
Daylight access was a priority for the design given the constraints of the site: no windows or skylights existed and two of the four exterior walls are party walls with no opportunities for new openings. New skylights were added in the main circulation space at the stairs to create a light well and the existing heavy timber was exposed. New windows were punched into exterior walls and interior spaces without windows were given generous glazing toward daylit spaces.
