Broadmoor Residence

Creating extra spaces and secret places.
The owners came to us with the desire to transform this 1940’s residence into a home where they can gracefully age-in-place. To really open up the home and create spaces that can be adapted to meet their needs over time, a small bedroom on the SW corner of the home was transformed into a sunroom. A new opening connects the sunroom with the existing living room improving the flow. The sunroom also secretly connects to the primary bedroom through a hidden bookshelf.
Preparing for advanced aging means addressing accessibility at all levels. Some of these modifications are easily spotted like the large curb-less shower, while others may be less flashy or hidden within the walls.
All three bathrooms received a refresh. The wall paper and warm wood tones bring in some bright fun color along with a new life to the spaces.
Flipping the direction of the stairs provided a more efficient layout upstairs. The new efficiency provided room for an additional bedroom, replacing the one lost on to the new sunroom. It also created room to have designated spaces for hobbies that weren’t possible before.
