Gas Station Conversion

NE Portland, OR

This 1920s structure received a concrete block addition in the 1970s, adding 3 garage bays while enclosing the majority of the original storefront and barn door repair bay. The new remodel divides the existing 3,250 square foot space into a mew retail space flanked by two new apartments. The A-frame roof from the original 1920s structure was removed and a much-needed outdoor area was added with a south-facing deck. The deck also allows south facing windows to filter natural light deep into the structure and highlight the original storefront. Natural wood and metal canopies were installed to add texture and color, while salvaged lumber from the demolition was integrated into the interior living space.

Reviving a dead street edge with bright & airy mixed use spaces.
