Modernizing a Mountain Chalet
This home rests in the foothills of Mount Hood and though it offers plenty of charm, it lacked an ease of circulation between levels and spacious public areas. Our clients were seeking to remodel this unique home to make it both a more functional space to age-in-place and a more inclusive space for spending time with a growing family.
The stairs were the number one priority of the remodel as the original spiral stairs to the main bedroom led to a precarious ascent.

The new stair retains the original steel structural elements and open wood treads while incorporating an updated steel and glass railing.
The new entry has large, stacked windows allowing optimal light and an open feel.
Phase 2 consists of a one-stop elevator from the garage, an addition to the living area, and a reorganization of the primary spaces to the main floor. The addition will reinvigorate this lodge with large swaths of glass and wood elements all facing the towering views of Oregon’s Iconic Peak.
