2020 has been quite a year, to say the least. It has instilled change in all of us, especially the way we live in the spaces we call home and how we think about our future and longevity within them.
When we were approached by Redfin.com to contribute our thoughts as to what makes a home timeless, we were immediately excited. Our natural focus on sustainability made this easy.
These were our summarized thoughts: ‘We use two strategies to make a home feel more timeless. First, we feel that a well-executed energy upgrade to the envelope of a home will make it less reliant on costly mechanical systems and more resilient to the unpredictability of climate change. Second, all of our projects integrate an interior flow and layout that enhances the connection to the exterior. Providing a well designed exterior space that is a destination while also highlighting the natural environment will never go out of style.’
The impact of current events has reaffirmed the need to take sustainable design seriously. We are dedicated to paying more attention to the building envelope, the embodied carbon of construction materials, and quality HVAC systems. All the while solving the needs of our clients and creating beautiful spaces. It is encouraging to see many other architects talking about the importance of sustainability as a timeless quality of a home.
